OVERVIEW
Shara Karasic is Director, Social Strategy for Appolicious, a mobile app discovery service. Shara began her Internet career in San Francisco in 1995, and has been using social media to create great user experiences and engagement ever since. She has developed online communities for Classroom Connect, Helen and Charles Schwab Foundation, and Business.com, and has advised non-profits including MobileActive.org and YouthAssets.org. In 2001, she was a Geekcorps volunteer in Ghana and consulted with NGO’s through USAID’s EDDI project.
SPECIALTIES
Shara is a contributor to the book published by O’Reilly Media and Yahoo Press, Designing Social Interfaces. In October 2008, Shara was in charge of social media for BarCamp Africa, an event sponsored and hosted by Google to connect people in Silicon Valley and African countries. In addition, she has blogged, tweeted, and shot video at technology and innovation conferences from DC to Johannesburg, and worked with envisionGood.tv to video the Social Capital Markets conference (SOCAP09) in San Francisco in September, 2009. Shara arranged a PBS FrontlineWorld iWitness interview covering the emerging technology scene in Swaziland. Shara currently resides in Los Angeles, CA.
